on the road: the Neon Museum

Every time I go home, my mother and I try to do one new thing.  I've been drying to go to the Neon Museum Boneyard for years, but you always have to schedule a tour and spots are limited daily.  We finally got our act together last time and went.  Las Vegas is slowly collecting and refurbishing old signs and pieces of old Las Vegas to put up on downtown Las Vegas (read: Fremont St.).  They're also building a real museum, but I wanted to see the signs in the boneyard before it was too late.  I highly recommend you go the next time you're in Vegas.  Very cool and an awesome history lesson on Vegas from great tour guides.

music: Of Monsters and Men

I went to a great concert last weekend, Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men.  I've been chipping my way through the Newport Folk Fest lineup this year and can't stop listening to their album.  It was great timing that they happened to be rolling through Boston!  I had such a blast and they sound exactly like they do on their album.  Listen below and enjoy!

Caine's Arcade

Do yourself a favor and take 10 minutes to watch this joyous little documentary about a 9 year-old boy who built a cardboard arcade in his Dad's east LA car repair shop and after you get a little weepy, go to the website and donate to his scholarship fund.

Girl Crush: Jennifer Lawrence

I am so incredibly pumped to go see THE HUNGER GAMES on Thursday at midnight.  Not only am I a lover of the book trilogy, but I think the whole series was incredibly well cast, especially its lead, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen.  I first noticed the young starlet during her incredible performance in WINTER'S BONE and thought, "now THAT girl is a movie star."

Also, she has looked oh-so absolutely FIERCE on the red carpet during each of the international premieres.  Love all her inspired looks!

(crazy hot in gold at the world and LA premiere)

(a gold Ralph Lauren in London)

(check out this "girl on fire" Katniss inspired look with a super awesome back in Berlin)

(super sexy again in Paris)

on pals

I've been thinking a lot about friendship lately and what it means.  I could write a long post on these thoughts, but what I really want to do is thank my lifelong pals.  Thank you for your unyielding loyalty, for your incredible wisdom, for your unconditional love and support, for helping me grow and change, for making me laugh until my stomach hurts, for dealing with me when I'm a pain in the ass and calling me on my shit, for letting me call you on your shit because you know it means I love you, for your adventuresome spirits, for sticking together even though we're learning how fast and hard life changes are, for opening your hearts, for being my family (even though you're not all pictured here, you know who you are).  I am so so thankful to have you.

Ok, and on a less serious note, how funny is this?  I snorted I laughed so hard.

Have a fabulous weekend!

ted quotes

Who doesn't love a good Ted Talk?  I love to hear people speak on what they are passionate about and I bet you do, too.  But today I discovered Ted Quotes, which is pretty rad because I can get a taste of a talk before watching the 20 minute video and share the cool quotes from them via social media.  Check it out.
