Pop Up Shop: Warby Parker

I love a good pop up store.  They're always clever in design, fun surprises await and great content for a brand.  When Puma opened Puma City during the Volvo Ocean Race in Boston, I practically lived there for the two weeks it existed.  And you know I loved the nomadic museum. So when my coworker Clare told me about the pop up store for Warby Parker called "Class Trip" in Faneuil Hall, we hurried over for a visit.  For 6 months, this school bus turned store is hitting the road for people to try on all their frames, get measured for the right fit and there's even a photo booth.  I chatted with one of the marketing girls and the Warby Parker employees traveling around with the bus range from sales associates to the PR team to social media marketers for the brand.  Very cool.  And they are great glasses and shades!  I splurged on a pair of sunglasses.  Check out our little visit!

nesting

More traveling and more life changes have kept me quite busy as of late.  One of the biggest is that I moved into my very own place!  First a full time job and now my first time living alone?  I feel like I've aged five years this past year.

One of the joys (and/or frustrations) of a new place is figuring out what goes where.  It's coming along quite nicely and I've purchased a few things to help me settle in and make it my own.  I'll share more pictures when it's more together, but here are a few pieces to start.

(I had Etsy designer Wooden Creatives paint this gold and it turned out beautifully. I wanted this to add charm and make the space a place for celebration)

 (I loved this water color from Acrylics by Clare - colors were insane and it reminded me of home in Las Vegas and summers with my father in New Mexico)

(pulled the trigger on this 8x10 from 20x200 - it's an archival print from 1900 and reminds me of my trip to Paris.  The Luxembourg gardens was one of my favorite places).

(decided to opt for a storage ottoman over a coffee table to act as triple duty for storage, seating and tabletop - this one from Target was the perfect size and right price and holds all my extra blankets, sheets and towels).

(needed a tray for the ottoman top and have been coveting these from West Elm.  I was lucky to snag one in turquoise in one of the stores, which is lucky because that color is no longer available online.  I also bought a silver one for my dry bar).

 

(and not needed, but couldn't resist buying this little bracelet from Brinkle on Etsy - their stuff is great and I've been wanting one for a while).

Girl Crush: Jennifer Lawrence

I am so incredibly pumped to go see THE HUNGER GAMES on Thursday at midnight.  Not only am I a lover of the book trilogy, but I think the whole series was incredibly well cast, especially its lead, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen.  I first noticed the young starlet during her incredible performance in WINTER'S BONE and thought, "now THAT girl is a movie star."

Also, she has looked oh-so absolutely FIERCE on the red carpet during each of the international premieres.  Love all her inspired looks!

work bags

I've got my eye on a new work bag, one that can sling over my shoulder with a long strap, but is still cute to tote along to after work events.  Right now, I have a classic Coach bag, not too far off from this (only red canvas with tan leather handles that's so old this was the closest thing I could currently find on the site):

Love this leather and wool number from Ralph Lauren Rugby, but a little out of my price range for something so seasonal.

 But what I'd really love is this Prada bag I saw on Swirl today.

Definitely out of my price range, so I've put my step-mother on assignment to find me a fabulous fake while she's in Hong Kong.  Hopefully she can find me something great!

Love the photo project Closet Visit by Jeana Sohn.  She visits the stylish and creative closets of fabulous ladies and photographs them and their pieces.  Closets really can tell a story (there's text, too if you want to learn more about each person).

hats galore

Here ye, here ye: there are THREE occasions for fabulous spring hats in the next two weeks: Easter, The Royal Wedding & The Kentucky Derby.  While I don't particularly look good in hats, I still think it's fun form of self expression one time a year.  At what other time are feather & silk flower monstrosities on top of your head are en vogue?  And while this year I spotted a gorgeous turquoise number in a local shop that would be perfect, sometimes these hats can run a little pricey... ($200-$300 pricey). 

So I scoured etsy to bring you some more affordable options to go with your bourbon for all those lovely parties.  Cheers!

Bought a new Tracy Reese dress a few weeks ago and itching to wear it....

It's pretty fabulous - great print, great coloring, great fit.  While I can't buy one of her dresses all the time, I definitely think she nails great dresses you can wear to multiple kinds of occasions.  Got my eyes on...

surprising find

I mean, I didn't find it.  But my dear friend Ali was wearing this awesome top the other night and when she told me Talbots, yes, I balked, too.  But Ms. Ali is a buyer for Talbots, so one employee discount later and I now have one, too.  Already received several compliments at work.  Get it here.

There are some crazy cute bags today on Swirl by Rebecca Minkoff.  Swirl is the retail baby of Daily Candy, and it's essentially a new online sample sale every day of great fashion at least 50% off.  I bought a stellar pair of jeans off the site last week.  Now I need to resist a new bag...
